Marital Strains and Autism
When discussing autism we usually deal with children with autism, causes, symptoms, treatments and other issues that surround the child. Sometimes we talk about the family. What we don’t talk about much is what happens to parents of a child with autism. Dealing with the issues that arise on a daily basis with a child who has autism can be difficult, at best, and completely overwhelming toward the other end of the spectrum. Statistics show that 80% of couples who have children with autism eventually end up getting divorced.
Among the other 20%, there are many who say that caring for a child with autism has brought them closer together and made their marriage stronger.

This is all so true. It can be very hard on a marriage. Especially when you and your spouse do not agree on treatment plans etc. I agree with open communication, and letting each other have that breather. I know that my husband does that for me, and vice versa.
