When discussing autism we usually deal with children with autism, causes, symptoms, treatments and other issues that surround the child. Sometimes we talk about the family. What we don’t talk about much is what happens to parents of a child with autism. Dealing with the issues that arise on a daily basis with a child who has autism can be difficult, at best, and completely overwhelming toward the other end of the spectrum. Statistics show that 80% of couples who have children with autism eventually end up getting divorced.

Among the other 20%, there are many who say that caring for a child with autism has brought them closer together and made their marriage stronger.

Family is vitally important to the life of any child in any family. Whether your “family” is considered only those in your immediate company or extended family with aunts, uncles and cousins, etc, your family can have a profound influence on your life. Planning For Your Child’s Future

Recent research reveals that about every 20 minutes a child is diagnosed with autism. This is a startling and astounding number. This also means that parents need careful planning regarding their children’s needs now and in the future.

There are some realities that parents of children with autism have to deal with on a very regular basis. For one thing, there is the issue of having to pay for medical treatment that is not covered by insurance. This can turn out to be quite costly, though there is hope that more and more newfound awareness in the medical and insurance fields.
